So uhh…New Years?

I had plans for this New Years Eve. Yep, plans that sounded really grand every time I thought about them. But those plans were contingent on people, and as we all know people make errors…they forget things. At least this is what I choose to believe over the alternative of Mr. Quilp’s philosophy “Those people are not your friends.” (which roughly translates to everyone is sympathetic to you, but couldn’t really care less about you in crunch time.)

But I’m glad that I did adopt one piece of his rules to live by, “Hope for the best, but expect the worse.” So when my plans started to fall apart one by one…and the minutes slowly ticked by, it wasn’t as bad as I thought it might have been.

So now I’m at home watching all of the New Years countdowns on TV. Suddenly last years NY’s party with all of it’s trance and latin music is starting to look really good.

Anyways Happy New Years 2008!

I’m pretty psyched about this year though. I got a job at the CB University’s bookstore for the first few weeks of Jan. Hopefully something will come up afterwards to continue my working spree. I’m going to be starting college this year. I’m going to make new friends. It’s going to be awesome. I’m pumped.

I hope you all have a swell night. Bring it in in style!

And its been a long December and theres reason to believe
Maybe this year will be better than the last
I cant remember all the times I tried to tell myself

Disjointed Thoughts

I just watched some of the most depressing games in history. The Steelers/Ravens, Dallas/Washington, and Colts/Titans.

The worse of which was the Colts/Titans, at least for me.

I was so pumped that I was going to watch a COLTS game, only to find out that half of the starters aren’t playing and Peyton would sit out after the first quarter.

It sucked. Sorgi sucks. The Colts have a horrible backup QB! And their third string is their punter. Yes, you read that right, the punter.

I wanted the Browns to make the playoffs.

Why couldn’t the Colts have made it a game like the Pats or just let Manning play one more quarter?  They could have totally trampled the Titans.

Dungy didn’t help the black coach…

I won the consolation playoffs in my fantasy football league. I feel so…so loserish.

The Lakers are totally rocking in the throwback uniforms. I’m loving the short shorts.

Before I get heckled (or So I can)

That was an entertaining game. Thank you Giants for making it interesting.

And…congratulations Patriots fans. Of course you have to win the Superbowl to actually get recognition like the Dolphins in my book, and you have to face some good teams…like my Colts again. So beware.

And Congrats Brady for breaking Manning record. You barely did it, but you did it. Manning will be back!

Now to dissect the Giants downfall. They crumbled in the 4th quarter. Completely fell apart. There was also a few bad calls, at least in my opinion, made against the Giants, or the non call of the poking in the eye. Also the Giants wasted to much time to get their last TD. I don’t know who made that call but it was annoying.

But overall it was fun. Since Tosh wasn’t on I had a dischatsion with Tracy throughout the game. (I hope you feel the burn, Toshi.)

On to other things.

Mississippi State won their bowl game! I slept through the 2nd and 3rd quarters. That’s kinda how boring it was.

I find it funny how people say they like college ball better than professional, and sometimes literally pay no attention at all to professional sports. I don’t see how. It’s so boring and slow moving in college. They use the excuse that they aren’t being payed to play, so they are putting more into it, but that’s partially the reason why it sucks. And they are getting paid, free room, food, and a college tuition, which estimates of at least 23,000 dollars a year.

Of course I’ll watch it…sometimes…and find out the scores afterwards…pretty much all the time. But that’s just because I’m addicted to sports.

Penn State won! So did Wake Forest. All of my college football predictions turned out today. I hit the jackpot in that respect.

Links.

The power of beards, according to the NFL Network. (I hoped you noticed the beards that the Pats were sporting tonight, especially Brady.)

Dirk and Terry made the dorkiest and cheapest commercial ever.

I spent 40 minutes last night watching all of these “Through the Night with Dirk”. In this one he admits his true feelings for Scottie Pippen…and then his afterthoughts. (forward to about 4 minutes in)

On the Money

Jemele Hill just wrote a golden piece. I think this is the third piece of hers that I can actually stomach. So she is improving. Or I’m becoming dumber.

Either way she sums up my thoughts on rivalries, hatred, and love of sports pretty well.

Monthly Roundup – December

Wearing: Winter coat, sweaters. It’s freakin winter now!

Listening to: Well for Christmas I got an ipod speaker/dock. It’s pretty much one of the coolest things ever. So I’ve been hitting my play list that consist of pretty much everything. Though special attention has been shown to Michael Bolton and Matchbox 20 this month.

Reading: A Father, His Sons, and a Football Legacy: Manning, and Dilbert and the Way of the Weasel. I kinda wish I had read the latter like 2 years ago. It would have give me a better understanding of a lot of things. But now I know how to dodge work like a pro…to work like a pro.

Watching: Football. Lots and lots of football, as much football as a person can stand. I just finished watching Friday Night Lights for the first time. I think it’s the first sports movie that I’ve seen where the underdogs don’t win in the end. It was awesome, except for how those guys got beat up so much. You never see that in the pros or in college, maybe that’s the difference between high school and college or something. Oh, and the fact that I will always and forever think of Billy Bob Thornton as a creepy guy, and him playing good guys is even more creepy.

Craving: What ever that Thai dish is with big noodles and a fried egg that my dad likes. I like it too.

Wondering: Is it possible for the Giants to pull an upset? How many sequels to an already dumb movie can there be? American Pie 1, 2, 3, going on 4. Bring it On, 1, 2, going on 3 or 4. Enough rehash already!

Wishing: That I get a job soon. Also that Tom Brady gets picked to be on the Madden cover for 09 (rehash from last month) Come on wouldn’t every one be happy if he made it?

Lusting after: HBO to watch The Wire and/or a lot of money so I can buy/rent the last seasons.

Loving: Family and friends. And that the Colts are playing a Sunday Night game so they can’t switch the game in the third quarter! haha…I can finally watch a Colts game all the way through. I’m so happy!

Hating/Disliking: The NFL Network for ripping off everyone who has the NFL Network so that they can be cooler than every one else and watch “special” games. Also their biasness to the Patriots, which is brought out even more by simultaneously airing the Patriots/Giants game on CBS and NBC plus the NFL Network. Now tell me again Toshi how they aren’t being bias. They didn’t think of doing that when the Packers/Cowboys was playing. Both teams were 12-0 fighting for number 1 in their division, and everyone in the country was dying to watch it. And there are way more Packers and Cowboys fans in this country than Patriots fans hands up. Nobody can argue that.

Missing: Mr. Quilp

Boy crushing: Seth Rogen and Kyle Korver (he’s my new nba crush)

Girl crushing: Yolanda Adams. She has an awesome voice and she doesn’t do the whole Mariah Carey 10 minute songs.

Awaiting: New Years! And college acceptance letters.

Dreading: Can’t really think of anything.

An Open Letter to a Swell Pal

Dear Philonious,

Happy Birthday holmes! I hope you have a great birthday, celebrated like only a Phil will….I’m thinking something along the lines of a cold caguama or three and a casadilla or two from Taco’s Manuel (sniff….ahh…weep…what I would do for that).

You are pretty much the coolest Japanese man ever. Thanks for being a swell pal.

Praying that your year is the best one ever. Party it up, and show them how we roll.

Miss you man.

NBA Thoughts

Where 1.3 seconds happens.

Where busted noses happens.

Where fros happens.

Where every blue moon a commentator says something remotely intelligent happens.

Where amazing happens.

So I’m watching the Lakers/Suns game, kinda spacing out, kinda watching, kinda looking at my presents, kinda trying to digest my food, and kinda thinking that this is the life, when out of nowhere one of the commentators comes out with this really cool fact that grabbed my attention.

Kobe has never won a regular season MVP award.

The Kobe, the guy who can score 50 on you 4 games straight, the guy who Bron Bron “will go quoted as saying again, I think Kobe is the best in the league”, the one that is number 3 on D-Wade’s fav 5. The one who was on the team that won 3 consecutive championships, the 9 time All-Star player. Oh, and the fastest and youngest guy to get to 20,000 points.

I was floored.

He has gotta win this year. And not only that, it’s about time a black man won again, and an American. 3 years of white dudes and foreigners…we gotta reclaim our sport if we plan on winning in Beijing next fall.

Youtube wonders: Great Celtics comedy, The Three Amigos. I love it and it’s hilarious. If only they weren’t from Boston…

To one and all…

Peace, joy and love
Were sent to all of us
From heaven, up above
To every man, woman, boy and girl
To all God’s children all around the world
It’s our hope that your
dreams may come true
Like ours have, thanks to all of you
Now we have just one more wish
That you all remember this
The true meaning of Christmas-
Christ the Saviour is born – 98 Degrees

Merry Christmas!

Little Women

I feel like a huge sap. I just finished watching Little Women (the original) and I cried, like multiple times.

I think Jo made a huge mistake, even if she supposedly was happier with the Professor. Laurie and her had so much going on. But I guess Laurie had to be pretty shallow underneath if he ended up with Amy.

Argh…the ditsy girls always win out.

Jo is so cool. She was a writer and tom boy, and her life was like a puddle, serious puddleige at times, and she pulled through. I dig.

The 90’s

I want to live in the 90’s again. But like the now me, back then. I feel robbed by the fact that I was a child during one of the coolest decades, therefore I wasn’t able to enjoy it to the max.

Reasons:

Music rocked back then. It was just so cool and good that nothing at anytime can top it, except maybe the 60’s, but even then there wasn’t really hip hop/rap. The 90’s was the peak of music.

Nobody gave a crap about appearance. You could wear just about anything and still be cool.

Gas was cheaper, and the economy was booming.

Quality tv.

Now tell me all of the horror stories to scare me back into the present.
