Crushes (Brits)

The Bachelor is hot. I’m not sure if it’s more because of his British accent, or if it’s the name Matt Grant, or if it’s his nose, or that he’s just good looking, or all of those things combined. But I do know that I’m almost thinking of abandoning my plans of living in DC after college to move to London. (End Notes: His profile sounds really cheesy, all the girls on the show are skinny twigs, and why would a man like that go on national tv to find his wife? Suddenly I’m thinking DC sounds great.)

But there’s another Brit who has striked my fancy even more, Dominic West.

Ahh….

Nationals Opening Night

I caught the two most important things, The President’s pitch and Zimmerman’s game winning home run. Everything else was replaced with Dream Girls (Let’s not talk about it)

Some of my thoughts:

-I thought the National Anthem sucked. Opera…please. They needed Jordan Sparks. Ever since I heard her version during the Superbowl I’ve been comparing everyone to her. She will always be remembered as the “Idol winner who didn’t seem exceptionally talented and who isn’t going to be a real star but nailed the national anthem” to me.

-I found it hilarious yet kinda sad when Pres. Bush walked to the mound to make the first pitch and you could hear half the crowd cheering and the other half booing.

- I felt jealous of their stadium compared to Camden Yards. Did you see their Jumbotron? It’s huge. And the funny thing is that Camden isn’t that old. It was made in the 90s.

-I was also jealous of their fan attendance tonight. 30 something thousand. (I know it’s opening day and it’ll probably go down throughout the season.) When I went to the Orioles game a few years ago there was 18,000 and I heard that was a good night.

-I felt kinda happy that they won. Which is weird because I hate the fact that they are 30 minutes from the Orioles.

-Thanks to pre-season watching and close examination I finally understand baseball and I actually find it entertaining now.

-I hope the Orioles figure things out and have a similar first game.

YouTube Finds

Michael Jackson’s “Do You Remember” music video from 92.

Why it’s grand: Well there’s an Eddie Murphy and Michael Jackson showdown. It was also Eddie Murphy in his prime as we would like to remember him (as in not his creepy looking guy in Dream Girls). It’s also a catchy song and features Michael Jackson shortly after his prime but when he was still kicking a**. There’s an awesome dance sequence that also includes some famous TIV moves…and we always wondered where the ideas came from…. One special move that you will notice is the side-side-twist-dip move in about the seventh minute. Also Michael Jackson made awesome music videos that were actually videos (that tell stories) so it’s entertaining.

Some other ones that have stroked me as cool. “You Rock My World” (with Marlon Brando and Chris Tucker). “Dirty Diana” (I just heard this song for the first time last night. It has a rocky tone to it…it’s pretty sweet.), and “Will You Be There” Which became the Free Willy Theme Song (Remember back in the day when that was the coolest movie ever? I do) However, it came out about 3 years before Free Willy did, and it’s rumored to be like Michael Jackson’s heart cry back in ‘91.

And on a side note, the dude had some pretty good songs besides his famous Pop ones that we know now (we as in my generation after the Michael era), like Man in the Mirror, Heal the World, Will You Be There etc.

Hold me
Like the river Jordan
And I will then say to thee
You are my friend

Carry me
Like you are my brother
Love me like a mother
Will you be there?

Weary
Tell me will you hold me
When wrong, will you scold me
When lost will you find me?

But they told me
A man should be faithful
And walk when not able
And fight till the end
But I’m only human

Everyones taking control of me
Seems that the worlds
Got a role for me
I’m so confused
Will you show to me
You’ll be there for me
And care enough to bear me

In our darkest hour
In my deepest despair
Will you still care?
Will you be there?
In my trials
And my tribulations
Through our doubts
And frustrations
In my violence
In my turbulence
Through my fear
And my confessions
In my anguish and my pain
Through my joy and my sorrow
In the promise of another tomorrow
Ill never let you part
For you’re always in my heart.

Kinda weird to look back 17 years later.

I think we threw Michael under the bus like Obama did his preacher and like Baseball has done with Clemens, Sosa, Bonds, and McGuire. We suck.

Friday Night Thoughts

-I want to direct you all to “My biggest fan” (who is technically my second biggest fan’s) blog. He has a very sweet post about the bonding of family and sports. (Basically it just proves that I’m not the only sentimental sucker out here)

-I miss Friday Night Lights. They need to speed up and make some new shows already. There’s literally nothing on Friday nights anymore. Damn the writers strike.

-As you know I’ve started watching the Wire. I’m digging it. It’s scary and weird but interesting. Anyhow one reason I thought it would be really cool to watch was because it’s set in Baltimore. However, it’s set in the Baltimore that I know squat about, West Baltimore. As they so put it in the Wire…I’m from the “country” aka County. In a way I’m glad that I know nothing about the West (thanks dad) but I feel just as lost as everyone else who’s knows zippo about Baltimore. But every now and then something will show up on “the other side of town” that’s familiar and makes me feel sorta in the know.

-Is it wrong to crush on TV characters?

Ahh…

Memphis’s High School All American, Elliot Williams (St. Georges), is going to Duke. Ahh shucks…

Check out his mad skills here.

In all seriousness, out of those schools that gave him an offer he’d be stupid not to pick Duke. By far the best school for him. Once a prep-er always a prep-er.

Look What I Found.

Today I bought Bill Simmon’s “Now I Can Die In Peace”. So far it’s been interesting and I really liked it up until page 29 when I read the following,”I remember Irving Fryer fumbling and snorting his way though eight horrible years…”

Did you catch the error?

If not, it should be through.

I know, it’s a little mistake, and I bet that 2/3rds of the world didn’t even catch it but I did. (I happened to have scored a 32 on my ACT in Reading so I would say I’m qualified to find the error.).

I just feel that when a book is a New York Times Bestseller, and is produced by one of the world’s biggest companies, ESPN, there shouldn’t be spelling errors. Maybe I’m holding them to a higher standard than I should? I do have a tendency to do that at times.

(PS. There will be spelling errors and bad punctuation at times on my blog. I’m not getting paid to write like other people.)

Dude!

The Best Commercials Ever.

Dude.

Dude…

Screams…

Nooooo, while crumbling to the floor….Dirk is injured!

Monthly Roundup – March

Wearing: Business casual, short sleeves, long sleeves. The weather is whack here, so it changes frequently. But I hung up my winter coat the other day (yay!)

Listening to: Bob Dylan and Jack Johnson’s new album.

Reading: Mere Christianity and the Screwtape Letters. Finished: Don’t be That Girl, I highly recommend it to certain people.

Watching: The Wire, started my first episode last night, it was what I had hyped it to be…good.

American Idol. Kristy Lee Cook needs to go. I’m sick of her. My top 4. Chikeze, Carly, David A. and David C. (Jason Castro comes in close though)

NCAA stuff.

Craving: Mochi, Thai food(more specifically that green noodles and duck dish), sweet potato pie, and cookie dough ice cream.

Wondering: How did Duke Lax lose to Georgetown? You were supposed to be unstoppable!

Wishing: That I was a kid again. Not a modern day child, but a kid when I was a kid. Somethings that I miss about being a kid: Footlongs (Gum), ice popsicle sticks, light up shoes, games with rules that keep changing because I’m not winning, the kids who let me keep changing the rules, math and reading blaster, civilization, sega genesis, Mario Brothers, ice cream trucks, riding my bike, watching Winnie the Pooh and Thomas the Tank Engine, and throw in all the Disney movies (now I look dumb when I watch them), Descent, Three Stooges, Mr. Rodgers Neighborhood, Power Rangers, the specialness of McDonalds, Play places, Chuckie Cheese.

Lusting after: Food.

Loving: My new bed set that my aunt’s friend got me as an early birthday present. It’s pretty.

The Pittsburgh Penguins.

Memphis BBQ (I had some last night. With some baked beans and slaw on the side, ahh…it’s so good.) If you ever want good food come to the south.

That I filed my taxes today. I’m an official grownup.

Hating/Disliking: Hating: Two faced and fake people. Disliking: Duke basketball (only momentarily though). You would think I would be numb to this feeling by now…But I’m not!

Missing: childhood.

Boy crushing: My crushes are fleeting. I had a few that I wanted to write about but it doesn’t seem right anymore.

Girl crushing: Same as above.

Awaiting: Tuesday when the Counting Crows new album comes out!!!

For the day that I muster the gumption to open the package containing Babel and finally watch it.

Dreading: Signing my life away for student loans.

Bracket Update 2

I want to burn my bracket. But I can’t because it’s online. Dang it.

I currently have 30 out of 40 right.

Duke, Pitt, and Kansas St. let me down. I’ll give UConn a break, because unnatural causes squashed them.

I’ve turned my back on Duke for the time being. I did the ultimate revenge tactic, I changed my MSN screen name from the picture of the duck and Dukie, to the duck picture and Ducky.

Take that, Dukies who are comfortable with getting knocked out early. Take that!!!!
