Mixed Emotions

Thanks to the Mavs and the Suns lost tonight I’m officially on the East Coast Playoffs bandwagon now. It’s becoming more interesting by the day.

Did I mention that the Mavs and Suns are out of the playoffs? And that it’s devastating even though it was expected?

The Penguins are up 3-0 against the Rangers, and the O’s won. So while I should be overjoyed for these milestones the NBA loses are overshadowing everything.

Avery Johnson needs to go.

Yabba Dabba Doo

The Bachelor is just like every other loser guy. He just ditched Noelle, the only real and likable girl, for two ditsy girls, one blonde and the other brunette. Typical.

Things that made me happy today: I signed today. I’m an official Buccaneer. Dulcy finally posted. And I got to chat with one of my bestest guy friends ever. Yippee.

Hole in One

*Warning* This is going to be a long post covering many themes. It shall contain topics of peculair news, the NFL draft, my weekend, and rants on southern living.

I’m going to head this up starting with what I did this weekend. Friday night I went down to Amber’s place to socialize with normal people (aka not the people who are/might be crazy that I see on a work week basis). I accomplished this by attending a rather lame get-together with some of her outer circle friends at an outer circle friends house. The highlight of the night was going to the gas station to get food and was asked to buy cigarettes since I was going in. Now I’m not a smoker and never plan on becoming one (though I heard that smoking makes you look and sound older which I could really use right now, but not in 10years). It was a momentous occasion because if I was a smoker it would be the only privilege I get when I turned 18 (and since I
don’t smoke I’m left with nothing.) Anyhow I’ve always wanted to buy some cigs, and I got the chance to do it with someone else’s money. How grand. So I went to the counter guy and asked for Marlboro Light Smooth. And el counter guy goes on about some off brands 2 for 4 deal and I was like…umm…no I’ll just take the Marlboro’s and he said okay. And that was that. He didn’t even card me! I think he missed the memo that I look like I’m 16.

Saturday: We went to Spring Fest in Southaven. Eric Church and Chris Cagle were in concert. Chris Cagle people! The very guy who wrote

Because when he’s holding you,
Know that it’s killing me,
Let my memory be the reason girl
That you can’t sleep
And everytime you feel his touch,
I pray to God it’s not enough
And that I’ve touched your heart so deep
Girl, you can’t shake me
Cause I love you,
Yes I need you,
Miss me baby.

It was country love at first sight. However the concert made everyone who was single feel like poo, and it was greatly discussed over or beers afterwards. But there was a few bright spots throughout the show, you know like fast songs, and Lynard Skynard covers, which I found out are southern gods.

My rant on Southern culture. While I was at the festival I noticed that I could count the number of black people on fingers and feet, literally. During the concert I didn’t even see one black person. I felt so out of place.

Backtracking to our drive to the concert. We were listening to rap. Rap is the coolest thing to most of these southern white kids. B****…pimp that hoe…all those foul things are blasting both from the car and their mouths. We stop at a gas station….”Those black folks are *******strange”. And someone locks the doors. Or…How’s ya’ll basketball team doing (two guys discussing CBU’s basketball team)? Good, won their conference tournament…”Really Ya’ll have niggas or white boys?”
What???
So maybe they didn’t catch on that 1. I’m half black. 2. That I’m standing RIGHT there. 3. That they are listening to RAP music. and 4.That their attitudes are wrong. More background. Everyone was super nice to me, we all talked and stuff. All those people that I sorta quoted did have those conversations. I don’t think anyone really knew what my racial make up was…I got a few of those foriegn exchange/asian/ where are you from questions. And I hung out with a group of about 20 people that were between 18-24.
Anyhow it really really angers me. And I don’t like to generalize but this is how the heart of the South is, and it’s disturbing.

I would also like to say that I’m tired of hearing “I wonder what it would be like if the South had won, and that the Civil War was not about slavery. It was. I know that it wasn’t the whole issue but it was an issue. Nobody would ever deny that a great part for fighting in War World II was to stop the Nazi’s from oppressing the Jews. So why are we in denial now about the slavery issue and the Civil War? And if slavery wasn’t an issue why did it take so long for the South to integrate?

I was quite disappointed that the NFL didn’t humiliate the Patriots by going through the motions for the Pats 31st draft choice. They decided to count the Giants as the 31st pick. So uncool. When the Rams picked Chris Long and he was holding up his jersey it made me miss those short 3 years when I was promised to the Rams, Kurt Warner, and Marshall Faulk. But something happened and the next thing I knew we had each moved on, so our wedding never happened. It was odd seeing them again after so long, and looking hotter than before.

Good news that I found when I came back home: Marianne sent me mochi from Japan. I’m so happy! I just need some seaweed and soy sauce and I’m set.

DUKE WON THE ACC MENS LACROSSE TOURNAMENT!!!!!

The Mavericks won a game….

Down 2

Today I had one of the top ten best laughs of my life. It lasted for a good 5 minutes and just the thought of it now is making me crack a smile and huff out chuckles.

I really needed that laugh because being a Mavs fan is so darn depressing depressing right now.

“Let them eat cake”

So I’m being told that  Marie Antoinette never said “Let them eat cake”. People are claiming that she was the first tabloid smeared person. What the heck? If that true then that ruins the irony of Mr. Quilps 3rd favorite quote.

I just finishing watching Marie Antoinette with Kirsten Dunst…it was uhh…like every other Kirsten Dunst movie (and if you know me that’s not a good thing).

But on a more inspiring note. August Rush is one of the sweetest movies ever (and that takes a lot for me to say) and Jonathan Rhys Meyers pulls my heart strings.

I work with some of the nicest people. I work with some of the most difficult, but even they have found a way into my heart. I like my job, minus the severely interesting folks that come in. I’m definitely glad that I’ll be working there through out college. 1. I know that I’ll have at least one good free meal a week. 2. They are caring and remember my birthday, without me reminding them (hint hint.) 3. I’ll be making decent money. 4. It’s super close to my school.

Last weekend I watched Dude Where’s My Car? and She’s All That. Talk about so 10 years ago (or close to it). “Dude, Sweet, Shibby, Hoover it, Your eyes are really beautiful, What happened to Lord of the Dance, Oh, you did that’s so sweet.” Oh…it tickles me silly.

Did I mention that I’m starting college in 3 and half months? Well I am. I’m sure you are all sick of hearing about me and college, but this is huge! And if you don’t like it go eat cake. College is going to be so shibby!

Sorta Kinda Official

I’ve kinda have decided that I’m going to CBU this fall. I haven’t finished signing all the papers, because I’m still waiting on my financial aid report from Mississippi State, but CBU seems to be it.

Here’s the good yet bad about CBU. It’s a geek school. Aka it specializes in science and accounting fields. I went to the President’s Reception today and he was bragging about some guy who just graduated and got a position high up with Microsoft and is going to make a buttload of money and Microsoft is going to pay for him to get his Masters degree. Sure I’m not majoring in computer science but damn…I want a piece of that upper crust life.

This summer they are going to begin building new dorms. (Which is wonderful). The new Science building (for the geeks) will be finished for the fall semester (and I doubt I will enter it’s doors). The English department is adding new majors such as English for Professionals. (I have no idea what that entails.) And the Management Department is adding new majors, such as Sports Management. (Not sure when all these new courses will be in place. “If they say next year” does that mean this coming year, like 2008-2009 or 2009-2010? My aunt and I can’t figure it out)

BTW…I think you should all know that I truly love geeks. It’s just right now I’m feeling hostile because they are getting a new science building and the English department is in the same building that the high school used to be in 30 years ago. There are old lockers lining the halls!) And I’m a nerd.

My NBA First Round Predictions

Boston vs. Atlanta: The Celtics had the most wins in the regular season. You can have a decent argument claiming that they are the best team in the league with KG, Allen, Cassell, and everyone else. The Hawks are a young team, and they traded their Dukie, Sheldon Williams, away mid season which is not cool to me. We all know the Maryland guys are the trade arounds.
Winner: Celtics 4-0

Detriot vs. Philly: I don’t like Prince or Hamilton. And I’m not a big fan of Dixon but I’ll give him a little love since he’s from Baltimore. And Rasheed is the Wallace. You can’t hate on him. The 76ers have no A.I. now, but they pulled off some freaky wins against good teams this year, and they have Shavlik Randolph a former Dukie (who ditched us too soon in my opinion.) However it’s customary to see the Pistons at least make the second round.
Winner: Pistons 4-2

Orlando vs.Toronto:Orlando has Superman, nuff said. However, I have to throw in that they also have JJ Redick (even if he only plays crap minutes.) Raptors have Bosh and Calderon, who are both good ball players, however I think the Mighty Magic will overcome.
Winner: Magic 4-1

Cleveland vs.Washington: Lebron isn’t going to lose in the first round. And if the Wizards have to be the first to go, so be it.
Winner: Cavs 4-2

L.A. vs. Denver: Everything in me wants to see the Nuggets win. On paper they have the potential to be one of the best teams in the league with A.I., Carmelo, and Martin, but somehow they just aren’t doing it. We all know the Lakers are the hot ticket item and have demolished the Nuggets in their 3 meetings already this year. But I think the Nugs can find that high scoring roll that they had towards the end of the regular season in the playoffs, because that’s what it’s going to take to win.
Winner: Lakers 4-2 (Would I be ousted and discredited if I believed the Lakers need to change their name. There are no lakes in L.A.!)

New Orleans vs. Dallas: I’m biased. I love the Mavs. I love Kidd and I love Dirk. I’m really irritated that the Hornets have home court advantage because the Mavs would no doubt win the series if it was the other way around. I don’t think we can keep expecting Dirk to carry the team like he did in the last few games. With that being said and if nobody else steps up…
Winner: Hornets 4-3

San Antonio vs. Phoenix: I want the Suns to win. I’m tired of the Spurs and their quiet, persistent, irritatingly fake humbleness, and demolition of the NBA. If they make the Finals again, I’m not watching. And I’m serious.
Winner: Spurs 4-3

Utah vs. Houston: First…this is a really hard matchup for me. Two Dukies who were both on Duke’s last championship team are pitted against each other, Battier on the Rockets and Boozer on the Jazz. Naturally I want both to win, but that won’t happen. So I have to break it down further. I’ve always like T-Mac. I felt bad for him when he was on the Magic and perpetually losing, and was happy that he made it to a semi contender in Houston. He’s a great ball player who was often overlooked. BUT…Kyle Korver is HOT…and a good player (what are the odds?). So that complicates things again. So the tie breaker is…Tim Primus looks like Okur on the Jazz.
Winner: Jazz 4-2

6 hrs and 16 minutes equals

22 innings and a 2-1 lost for the Padres.

What’s My Age Again?

I remember before my father and I attended my first modern Orioles game 3 years ago he kept gushing to me how good Tejeda was. Not only as a player, but what he was doing for the O’s and the league, and he also happened to be the O’s only star.

Because of the praise bestowed upon him I was always paying special interest when he went to bat. I got excited even though he didn’t produce anything significant, and I admit I was more excited when the young guys came out to bat…but that’s just between you and me.

After the game I started to keep better taps on the Orioles through the Baltimore Sun and was surprised to find out that Tejada was sucking the life out of the Birds through his contract (You know the small amount that dear Mr. Angelos likes to use). So naturally I thought it was grand when they traded him, although I thought they could have gotten a better deal than what they got.

Soon after the trade he was mentioned in the Mitchell Report and I thought…No, not Tejada! He was the shiznit during the O’s down years. But then today’s breaking news of him coming about with his real age of 33, not 31. And his sudden need to get off of his chest the lie that he has told for years and years, I’m really leaning towards the truth of him being a ‘roid’ user. Lied once, why not again?

Blast you Miguel Tejada. You are to me and Baltimore what Clemens is to Boston. We put our trust in you and then you blatantly lie and cheat on us. The thing is that you didn’t even give us anything worth remembering in return, so in actuality you are worse.

I hope you enjoy Texas…

The End. The Sequel…

The Mavs beat the Hornets in their season closer. This could mean good things for the Mavs pending the possible first round series against the Hornets.

The Penguins swept Ottawa and are going to the second round! Did I mention that Sidney Crosby is so hot right now?

And to top it off my job is treating all of the support staff to lunch at Outback Steakhouse tomorrow (It’s sorta like a birthday thingie that they do each month, and this time it’s in celebration of me.)

Jajaja!

Oh, AND…Kristy Lee Cook is officially kicked off of American Idol!!!!!!!  Now for Syesha.

P.S. David Cook is my idol winner.
