Freeday Travels

Boo and I, made our first trip across the border without anyone else with us. As in just ourselves, as in two new drivers, as in WOW.

Well almost, Marie (the mother of a bunch of swell people and a swell person herself) made the early morning trek with us.

Early morning equals 8:30 am on our Freeday. Our free day is our special precious day. The one day we get to sleep in as late as we want…or we can wake up as early as we like as well.

Anyways, our original intent as of a little before Friday afternoon, was to hit some garage sales, do some shopping, and then head on over to Clara’s baby shower. But at our noon planning meeting we decided that we were far to lazy to actually pull all of that off, so we nixed the garage sales. Bah bye!

Later at 12 am, we had a phone conference meeting and decided that 8:00 would be our departure time. But as true females who find it increasingly hard to wake up early and to have to get “dressed” for the day, we didn’t leave until 8:30. Not to shabby though considering the times of others of our gender.

Then Boo residing in the drivers seat drove our car load across the border and into the states. With me as her navigator of course. It was grand. We then went to Ross and Marshall’s, and I read some books while they shopped. I haven’t read from a “book” in so long. It was heaps of fun.

Then Phil and Marie took us out to lunch and to Starbucks. It was quite humbling. It’s something that I suppose God is trying to teach me recently, how to accept gestures of kindness from others. It’s been happening a bit lately, and it’s really hard for me to accept things from other people. I hate the feeling of being “indebted” to people. I tend to think that there must be an angle or they might mention it at some other time, like “Well I did this for you” and “I gave you that”. But I guess I need to trust that not everyone has an angle, and in fact most people don’t. And friends do things for like that for friends! It’s funny, because I like doing/buying things for other people.  It’s just silliness.

Continuing on. We went to Mission Bay, which we were told was the “happening spot”. But of all unfortunate events we forgot a cell phone. Two girls, in a city, stranded with no communication with the inside world. It was traumatic. We walked the whole park for 2 hours, but there was nobody we knew around.

We had murmuring time. We had praise time. We had extreme murmuring time. We had extreme praise time. We had thinking of all the rotten things we could say to these organizers time. But then, we had let’s put this all behind us and have X-treme praise time.

And well it worked. One of the teams from Fallbrook, which contained Cons, Niki, Steve and Linda and Co, was our white van in shiny metal. They found us walking aimlessly around, thinking that we knew where this shibang was happening. Where they in for a surprise when we said we were LOST and CLUELESS, and we don’t happen to be blonds. They kindly let us into their van, which was already full by the way, and called the father of the soon to be child about (removes the murmurings and vain babbling)…the location of the event. Turns out that it’s not in the Mission Bay grounds, but is about 10 minutes away from it.

We all had some more extreme praise time…after our slight utterances of annoyance.

We overcame, we conquered, and we took over the land.

Actually we fellowshipped, talked, ate, and walked aimlessly around some more. Then it was over.

Boo and I went and bought some ice cream at a grocery store on the way home. While there a middle aged (as in somewhere in his 30-40’s) stopped me during my search for the restroom, handed me his business card (travel agent) and says “I hope you aren’t offended, but I thought I would give you one of these because you are cute”, then tried to make small talk with me about the heat outside and the air con in the building. I was freezing and I had to go pee. Not a good time for flirting.

So I kindly excused myself, but not before I asked where the restroom was, which he then told me the location….and I ran. I was a speedy Gonzales if you ever seen one.  Unfortunately I saw him again while Boo was checking out. And then again when I exited the store…while he just so happened to be putting his groceries away in his 93 Porsche.

I got the creeps man. Why didn’t he hit on Boo? Why me? Shivers. I’m still creeped.

After that wonderful experience we ate ice cream in the car, but ehh…don’t worry Phil we didn’t get the car dirty.

While eating our snack there was some high quality comedy in the parking lot. A girl and a guy were on a “date” (at least that’s what we gathered) the girl was driving but she parked the car half way into the parking space. The rear end was sticking pretty far out. She got of the car wearing the shortest skirt that uhh…a girl can wear and constantly tugging on it. The dude looks at the car and start laughing, then shrugs it off. They walk towards their intended restaurant, I suppose they entered as well by the time it took. Then he comes running back out and moves the car forwards. I guess it had flashes of the possible things that could happen to his car or something.

People watching is so grand.

In the end we made it home in one piece and had a killer day.

We came, we conquered, and we crashed (in bed). Dang that sounded wrong.
